Lacoste Homme: the history of the brand
One may wonder
why the Lacoste logo is a crocodile ? This logo was born from René Lacoste’s nickname: The Alligator. This nickname was given to him after a victory at the Davis Cup. Indeed, he had spotted a crocodile suitcase and his trainer offered to offer him a gift if he won his match.
It was in 1933 that René Lacoste made this nickname the emblem of his brand. From its first advertising campaign, the brand has met with great success. After having excelled in tennis, this man thus manages to conquer the world of fashion.
Over the years, the brand grew, but he did not abandon his passion for tennis. In 1963, he revolutionized tennis by creating the first metal racket.
The Lacoste polo shirt, an iconic piece
It is by cutting the sleeves of a shirt that René Lacoste creates a piece that will revolutionize ready-to-wear: the polo shirt. To do this, he simply cut the sleeves of a shirt to adapt it to playing tennis.
The final model is the Polo L.12.12, L for Lacoste, 1 for its unique material, 2 for the short-sleeved model and 12 because it is the 12th prototype that was selected.
The making of the brand’s crocodile polo shirt follows a millimeter process. This is done in 3 steps:
Knit the stitch using a unique method
Embroider the logo with 1600 embroidery stitches for a crocodile.
Assemble the parts entirely by hand.
The polo shirt is appreciated for its timeless style and its versatile side. It is available today in several colors, with or without patterns.
